In the context of integration, many citizens choose to renounce their Vietnamese nationality to facilitate work, study or family reunification abroad. Vietnam respects this need but still stipulates the necessary conditions to ensure that the renunciation of nationality does not affect the common interests and limit the risks for the implementer.

According to the process, the applicant for renunciation of citizenship needs to have another naturalization plan to avoid falling into statelessness, and at the same time complete related obligations such as taxes, ongoing obligations/decisions and other obligations if any before being considered for approval. This approach helps to harmonize personal choice and responsibility to the country.
